Sunny Side Up - Episode 1: Why I am Here! (Plus 3 Ways to Bring Sunshine to Your Life Today!)

Hello and welcome to the Sunnyside Up podcast. I am your host, Tara Lynn, and I would like to welcome you today on this beautiful sunny day. Wherever you are joining me from, I wish you sunshine in your day. And that is the reason I started this podcast. I wanted to bring sunshine into your day. So even if it's not a sunny day, you can still cultivate that sunshine from within. 2s Today is my first episode. Episode one. I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about the show. My name is Tara Lynn. I am a wellness coach and a yoga instructor. I'm a mom of two awesome kids. 1s I am a runner. I ran my first half marathon last year. I have been on a long health and wellness journey, and I've fought through a lot of hardships in my life, including trauma, including weight loss issues, health issues, relationship issues. I am a divorced single mom, so anyone who's gone through that knows there's always hardships with that. But along with all of those things, there's joy and there's strength, because anyone who's been through anything hard, 1s those are the things that build you, that build your character. I am grateful for any of the hardships that I have had because I wouldn't be the person I am today unless I went through those hardships. I wouldn't be sitting here recording this right now unless I had gone through all of those things that I went through in my life that were hard and that I had to. 2s Go through and get through and work through and challenge myself and pull myself out of sometimes despair. If I didn't have to do all that, I wouldn't be strong. And I am strong. So this podcast, I 1s wanted to make it for you, for the listener, for anyone who's here to give you hope and to give you sunshine. So that may sound a little bit cheesy, but that's okay. I'm a little bit cheesy. Hopefully, I'm for you. I'm not for everyone. But if you want some positivity, some sunshine, 1s a voice of encouragement, that's me. I will be here for you, and I hope to bring you that today. And 1s starting right here with the sunny side up podcast. So sunny side up, I wanted to bring you some sun. Also, I happen to love Sunny side up eggs, aka. Dippy eggs. A little bit of cheesiness here, but that's okay. So, anyway, for today first episode, little bit shorter one, but I did want to start with ways to bring the sunshine into your life. So I have three ways to bring sunshine into your life because that's what I really want to do for you guys. So are you ready for it? Here we go. 1s It number one, 1s get in the sunlight. 2s So this is pretty common sense, but common sense is not always common practice, as they say. But if you want to bring sunshine into your life, literally get in the sun. So research shows that when we are exposed to sunlight, it elevates our mood, it uplifts our mood. So literally go outside in the sun, maybe take a walk, maybe just step outside on your back porch or front porch. Have your cup of coffee out there in the morning, go out and stretch in the morning. A lot of times I like to take my journal outside and journal outside. So if there's anything that you can do outside, do it outside a book. If you were going to sit down and read, if you were going to do work on your phone or laptop, can you take it outside? Anything just to get that natural sunlight in is going to help your mood, it's going to elevate your mood, and that's amplified ten times if you're also moving your body. So if you are adding a walk outside or a bike ride or doing yard work outside, you are doing so much for your body and for your mood to bring sunshine into your life. 1s Bare minimum. Open your blinds and your drapes, whatever you have, every day, okay? You should be doing this every day. When you get up in the morning, open the blinds if you can. Open the windows. If it's a nice enough day, get some fresh air
in there too. That's a bonus. But you need to bring some sunshine. And like I said, it is backed by research that if you have more natural light, more sunshine, you're going to be in a better mood and you're going to bring sunshine to your life. So that is basic number one. Number two, 1s second way to bring sunshine into your life is to do something for someone else. So think about how you can bring some sunshine to someone else's life. 1s Maybe you work in a place where you can bring your coworker a cup of coffee. Think about how excited they might be by that or do something for them. If you were going to go make copies, maybe you could make some copies of something for them or something for your neighbor, 1s any kind of little favor. So think about a way that you can help someone else, and you might say, well, Tara, how is that going to help me? It helps you immensely. What you put out into the universe, you get back, you receive. So if you want sunshine in your life, you be the sunshine. I know that sounds cliche, but it's so true. It's so true. 100%. If you can put out what you are wanting, you will get it back. So you want to be sunshine. You want to experience that, give it to someone else. So think about how you can help someone or be kind to someone. 2s Give something to someone, 1s even your time. It doesn't have to be money, just your time. Or do a favor or a heads up on something or give someone a compliment, something nice. So you're putting that goodness out, giving it to someone else. It will make you feel better. It will make you feel better. It'll bring you sunshine. Also the other person, and it comes back to you. Number three, the third way, and this is the easiest way you guys to bring sunshine into your life is to smile. I know this sounds cheesy. It's totally true. 1s It's so simple. It's so easy now. Yes, like I mentioned in the intro, I do smile all the time. This is true. However, if you're not a big smiler, you don't smile at people a lot. This can become a skill that you learn. Okay. You just remind yourself to smile. Okay, so how are you going to do that? Number one, you're going to be aware of it and give yourself a cue. So you might say when someone else walks in the room, I'm going to intend make my face smile. So practice that with me right now, 1s curl up the edges of your mouth and give a little smile. 1s That's what you're gonna do when somebody walks in a room and you're gonna think about it every time somebody else walks in a room, you're gonna curve up your lips and smile. Doesn't matter if they're not also smiling or if you feel like smiling or not. I am telling you, if you intentionally make yourself smile, 1s chances are the other person that you are smiling at is going to smile back. That's just human nature. That's just one of those innate things. Humans, 1s they are constantly looking at each other because we are social beings and imitate each other. And that started at birth. When a baby is born and they're looking at their mom or their dad or whoever, they look at their face. And it is one of those things. It's just ingrained in you. You are studying another human being's face. You're studying their face when they smile. That's how you learn to smile when you were a baby. That's how you learn to smile. Someone is smiling back at you. That's why if you look at a baby and you're smiling and laughing, they're going to smile and laugh. That's also why if you're with a group of friends and they're upbeat, they're smiling, maybe they're laughing about something, you're going to do the same thing. You're going to smile, you're going to laugh. That's the same reason why laughter is contagious. 2s Have you ever been around a group of people and they were like laughing hysterically and you didn't even know what they're laughing at? But then you all of a sudden just start laughing too, because it's contagious and you see them. It's that innate thing inside of us that wants to imitate other human beings because we are social beings. So that is the simplest way to bring sunshine into your life, is by smiling. And I promise you people will smile back. And that's just going to create a beautiful atmosphere for you to live in. There's lots of other ways. I want to keep it simple today. So those are my top three. So just a quick review. Top three ways to bring the sunshine the sunny side into your day. Number one was to literally get in the sunlight and or daylight
and bring sun the outside into your life. The number two reason or way was to do something for someone else to give them sunshine and that will come back to. 1s And the number three way was to smile. So I hope all of you can put a smile on your face with me. See if you can do that again. Right now. Curl up the edges of your mouth and let's end this podcast with a few nice deep breaths.
